When will Tiger Woods return in 2010?
Lately I have been bombarded with questions asking me about the whole Tiger Woods saga and what will happen to his career and legacy. Like all of your I have been following this man throughout his entire career and playing and club professionals have nobody but him to thank for growing the game and turning it cool. This is evident with the recent naming of the sport to the Olympic games.
Ever since IMG started to manage Tiger we really haven’t been able to take a look at what goes in his private life. We all just assumed it was normal as Elin just had a second child not to long ago and they would appear to have a solid relationship. As it turns out though it was Tigers plan all along to blind us with his family so that he could live the life of a traveling pro athlete and have multiple affairs at certain tour stops.
For years that man has seemed like a robot plotting his way a long winning as many major championships as he can but all of a sudden there is a gaping hole in his armor and we are all peeking inside to see if the man is actually human. Outside of his father passing away and his emotional outbursts on the course, we really haven’t seen much humanly things from him. At this stage in his career I am surprised that man hasn’t tried to become more of a political figure but given the fact the Tiger Woods Foundation signed Chevron to a title sponsor deal for the Tiger World Challenge it seems as though he doesn’t care about world issues.
Since he has not addressed the public in over 6 weeks it seems as though he is human after all and he is trying to heal his wounds from a media lashing. Or is he simply working on his game to prepare for the 2010 Major Championship season where he could take a few steps closer to chasing down Jack Nicklaus. I personally believe Tiger is only slightly embarrassed by this whole issue and will be able to shake this off in time for April and the Masters. Tiger needs 5 more Majors to pass Jack and this year is his best year to win two or three. He has not won at Augusta since ’05 and I am sure he would love nothing more then to win their again to prove the Masters committee that the course is not Tiger proofed. The US Open returns to Pebble Beach and I think he knows that course well winning the ’00 Open by 15 shots. St. Andrews hosts the Open Championship and Tiger has one the last two times there.
After last August’s stunning defeat to Ye Yang at the PGA and the fact that he has only won 4 majors in the last 4 years, he will have some extra motivation for this years Majors. This coupled with the fact that I know he wants to prove to everyone that he can and will still play this game because it has been his life long goal to demolish Jack’s Major title record and set a new benchmark until the next phenom comes along.
