Choosing the Best Golf ball for you

For years Titleist has been on top of the best golf ball world but things are ever changing.  A few years ago Callaway Golf bought out Top Flite and at the time, I had no idea why until Callaway sued Achusnet (Titleist’s manufacture) in 2007 over a patent infringement and won.

This market is where every golf manufacture wants to be in.  Think of it, you create a product that golfers lose very often and have to buy more of if they want to play this game!  It doesn’t matter how slim the profit margins are if you sell millions each year.  Taylor Made , Bridgestone, Srixon, Callaway, Titleist and Nike are the big players.  With plenty of years of working behind a counter at the golf shop I can say that just about everyone buys and plays a golf ball that is not suited towards their swing.

Many golfers tend to buy whatever the tour players use just because they’re the best.  Tour players will play the Titleist Pro V1, Taylor Made TP, Srixon Z Star or the Bridgestone B330 but this doesn’t mean you should.  These are only designed to perform at their highest level if your swing speed is over 100 + mph.  If they’re hit with swing speeds less then 100 mph then they will not perform or spin like they should.  They also cost a lot of money which is why I have no idea anyone would pay $4+ a ball for something that isn’t even geared towards them?  Most be all in the marketing!

Once again I am looking out for all you and trying to make sure you aren’t paying too much for something you shouldn’t be using.  Read the rest of this post to find out what you should be using.  Click on the images to purchase  from golfballs.com

For all the ladies out there reading this I still start with you.  Over the last couple of years I have seen an influx on cool and performance based balls hit the market.  If you want a ball that strictly looks good then check these out.

If you are lady and want a little more performance, then check these out.

For the men I want you all to take a long hard look at what type of player you are and what you want.  If you are a player that swings fast but doesn’t have a great short game then I suggest you take a look at a few of the balls below. These ones have firmer covers on them, are more durable, inexpensive and will not spin as much.

These ones have less firmer covers on them, are a little less durable, still inexpensive and spin a bit more around the greens

If you are a better player but don’t generate a lot of swing speed then take a look at these premium balls that are a bit firmer and spin less which is ideal for gaining more distance.  From my personal experience I have ordered this from best to worst.  Feel free to agree or disagree with me but I can tell you that from playing every ball on the market I have ordered this list with everything in mind.

If you don’t want to sacrifice feel around the green and still want to spin it more then try these

I have put Titleist and Nike in the bottom of the premium golf balls simply because they’re covers are not durable and they lack distance compared to the other manufactures premium balls.
